Eline Gemerts has that magic, uncommon, sparkling… well, actually; you can’t quite put your finger on it; she has something you wish every singer would naturally possess!
Eline lived in Suriname (South America)for part of her childhood and grew up in a very musical family.Even at a young age she was inspired by the music of such people as Dinah Washington, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Astrud Gilberto.
After graduating with a fine arts degree, she decided to change careers and completed her degree in voice (pop and jazz) at the University of Groningen, the Netherlands. Her vocal coaches included Edwin Rutten, Georgie Fame, Floor van Zutphen, and Louis de Vries.
Her singing career started with a bang upon winning the Heineken Music Award with her band in 1997.
She has since performed on numerous stages with many renowned jazz musicians (Hans Dulfer, Gerardo Rosales, Alexander Beets, Frans van Geest, Loet van der Lee, to name just a few).
She has performed at many Jazz festivals, in Jazz clubs, in Carré, in Live Radio performances, in countless theatres in Belgium, Spain, Italy, Germany and Lebanon. Wherever she appears, her warm voice gets raving reviews and enthusiastic audiences.
Eline is a well respected adjudicator. Among many other things, she was adjudicator in the preliminary rounds of the “Grote prijs van Nederland” (category singer-song writer). In addition she is much in demand as teacher and coach of soloists and vocal ensembles. She appears as vocalist and extra in TV commercials.
Always open for and exited about new projects, Eline is a frequent guest soloist in a huge variety of musical projects.
If all of her musical talents weren’t enough; her back ground in fine arts still linger and as a costume designer Eline’s talents are much in demand!
Her debut CD “Marching In” was released on the Maxanter record label in 2006, and has received raving reviews and frequent air time on various radio stations. (“the singer has a warm “black” voice, which she uses to effortlessly change from Latin to gospel, to swing” (source: blad NTB)
The CD also features accompanists, such as renowned pianist Bas van Lier (www.basvanlier.com), Jos Machtel (double bass) and Erik Kooger (drums). Special guest is Hans Dulfer (tenor saxophone).
