SantiSanti Wongsawat

With a long love for Jazz Music and high ambitions to promote Jazz Music within Thailand Santi started actively in 2009 by founding Samui International Jazz Productions and thereafter with initiating and organizing the monthly Samui Jazz Series on Koh Samui/Thailand, which proofed to be a great success. From there on he took the next step by creating and organizing the first weeklong festival on Koh Samui, the Samui International Jazz Music Festival, in September 2010, which gained international recognition.

One thing led to another and Santi traveled to International Jazz Festivals extensively with the goal to introduce new Jazz artists to Thailand and to connect the Thai Jazz scene to other Jazz-networks on all levels. As an official delegate from Thailand he attended the Amersfoort Jazz Festival in the Netherlands in 2010 and 2011, JazzAhead in Bremen/ Germany in 2011 and Jazz Dag in Rotterdam.

Santi is the foundation Chairman and Director of the International Jazz Festival Alliance Foundation, which is registered in the Netherlands and got currently members of 12 different Nations from Europe and Asia. This foundation has initiated a program to connect jazz-networks worldwide for mutual benefits, to use jazz festivals as an non-profit tool to face new global challenges, city marketing, art appreciation, talent and music development, cultural appreciation and tourism.

Furthermore he is a board member and International Director of foundation JazzNL an initiative which supports projects and which aims at connecting international jazz networks and exploring new jazz markets worldwide.

His efforts to foster the Jazz scene in Thailand implies promoting international artists within the Thai market, by releasing the artists album within Thailand and organizing promotion tours through the country, but also by giving Thai artists a platform to perform at international Jazz Festivals as in Amersfoort May 2011.

His advise to the major Jazz venues in Bangkok for Saxophone Pub or Brown Sugar Bangkok Jazz Club is well regarded and it has not only been once that he created an amazing line-up for them. Santi is a shareholder of the Brown Sugar Bangkok Jazz Club, with space for 600 people is the biggest Jazz venue in Bangkok.

Santi aspires towards creating a Jazz Hub to Asia, an event that will be used as a gateway to the Asian Jazz Music Market, for which the foundation has been set already by organizing Bangkok City of Jazz. Bangkok City of Jazz, consisting of an international conference, showcases and concerts around town, takes place two days this September 2011, which is attended by professionals from around the world, followed by the second Samui International Jazz Music Festival September 2011.

Bangkok City of Jazz

16 – 17 September 2011

The event will start Friday the 16th of September with more then 15 concerts in the city of Bangkok, a great main- stage presenting international artist Peter Beets and Irene Atman, a jazz conference and various workshops. All of this will take place in the BACC in Bangkok. During the conference the focus will be on connecting the European and Asian jazz networks.
