Dasha

Dasha

Dasha Skorokhodova (1986) is a fresh young voice in the world of music. She was surrounded with jazz music since her early childhood. Her mother, as a vocal teacher, was the driving force behind her musical development and her technical skills. Her father, who now is active as a priest, had a flourishing career as a jazz trumpet player. After eight years of studying classical piano in Ukraine, she graduated from the Moscow Conservatory as a jazz singer (class of Irina Tomaeva) in 2007. Subsequently she was invited by the Royal Conservatory in the Hague to polish her talents to a higher professional level. In the Hague she studies with Rachel Gould, Hein van de Geyn, Manon Heine and Sanna van Vliet. She also takes lessons from Rita Reys. Dasha Skorokhodova shared the stage with such world known musicians as Peter Beets, Rita Reys, Ruud Jacobs, Joe Cohn and Sheila Jordan. Aside from singing the repertoire of the Great American songbook, she is using her talents as a composer of original music. In her performances in Holland she has been lauded for her natural swing and her capability to move the audience by her profound treatment of the lyrics. Also her improvisations and her interaction with the musicians on the bandstand are regularly praised by music lovers from all categories. "Quality Time" is the name of the debute album of a young promising voice in the world of jazz. With this CD Dasha shares her life experiences and positions herself as a, nowadays unfortunately rarely heard, genuine jazz singer. Dasha started her first piano lessons at the age of 6. Her mother, a choir director, paid close attention to the musical development of her daughter. Her father, at the time a professional trumpet player, was regularly taking Dasha to rehearsals and performances. While studying classical piano in Ukraine, a sudden discovery of the music of Ella Fitzgerald converted her immediately to jazz. Luckily her parents supported her in her choice to enroll in the Moscow Conservatory. Dasha gives her jazz teacher in Moscow, Irina Tomaeva, all the credits for laying the foundation for her knowledge of jazz and her deep affinity with it. Daily contact with the about 300 other jazz-students of the Conservatory helped her to familiarize herself extensivily with the repertoire of the Great American Songbook. Dasha also started composing and arranging in Moscow. Her luminescent arrangement of “All or nothing at all” (#2 on the CD) was made during this period. At the age of 21 she decides to enter the venerable Royal Conservatory of the Hague. Up until now Dasha polishes her talents in the Netherlands and is being prepared for a professional career under the supervision of Manon Heine and Rachel Gould. Maxanter Records is proud to present the first album of a strongly imaginative singer, radiating timing and swing as well as an impeccable taste and a sophisticated interpretation of lyrics.
